FAQ - Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What time is it in New Zealand?
A1: Please see the clock feature on the bottom of page.
Q2: What are your office hours?
A2: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00 pm.
Q3: I am in the USA; do I need an import license to buy parts from New Zealand?
A3: No. No special provisions are required to buy parts from Dwen Airmotive in New Zealand - just treat it as if it were a normal purchase order from any other company.
Q4: What Quality Assurance system do you use?
A4: We have our own internally developed QA system which broadly complies with FAA Advisory Circular AC 00-56A. We are working toward ISO 9001 certification and full compliance with AC 00-56A.
Q5: How will I know what traceability and airworthiness certification a part will have?
A5: Every part's airworthiness and traceability are advised on each quotation, on an item by item basis.
Q6: Can I see a copy of the documentation before I place my order so that I can buy with confidence, and know exactly what I am getting?
A6: Yes, absolutely. If you have any doubts we would rather eliminate these before we ship the parts to you. All you have to do is tell us what you would like to see and we will gladly send it to you.
Q7: Can I see a photo of the part before I place my purchase order?
A7: Yes, absolutely. We are happy to supply digital images of the parts we have for sale. The only exception is if the parts are in sealed packs. In which case, we would send you a photo of the packing showing the part number and any other manufacturer's information on the packing.
Q8: How long does it take to get parts shipped out?
A8: We ship out 98% of all orders on the day we receive the purchase order, assuming there is no issue with payment. Typical exceptions include items that are classified as dangerous goods, or are over-length or overweight and fall outside normal courier service limits. For example FedEx only accept parts up to 302cm (9 feet 11 inches) long. For overweight or over-dimension shipments we use freight forwarding companies, and this generally takes a little longer. Typically for these shipments a freight quote is requested and we let you know what the freight charge and delivery time will be prior to shipping.
Q9: For shipments which are too big to go by FedEx can I specify the freight forwarder?
A9: Yes. Most of the larger freight forwarding companies operate direct from Auckland. If not then they will generally have an affiliate who can handle the shipment at this end.
Q10: Can I pay by credit card?
A10: Yes we accept payment by Visa and MasterCard.
Q11: How much does it cost to ship parts to me? Is it expensive to ship to the USA?
A11: Comparatively it is not expensive to ship parts to the USA. If you want to know for sure we can get a quote for you prior to shipping, then you can decide. It is all part of the service!
Q12: How long does it take for parts to get to say, the USA?
A12: If we ship via FedEx parts arrive on the West Coast USA the next day! Many of the larger courier companies have a delivery guarantee. If the shipment is late it is free.
Q13: How long have you been in business?
A13: Dwen Airmotive has been in the aircraft spares business since 1968
Q14: What guarantee do I have buying parts from Dwen Airmotive?
A14: Every part sold carries a 'conditional money back guarantee'. If any part is found to be defective or not as specified on your purchase order, then a full refund of the invoice price will be made - provided:
- we are advised within 14 days of the despatch of the parts rejection
- a Return Material Authorisation (RMA) is issued prior to any parts being returned
- and we receive the part back in the "as shipped condition", along with all of the original packaging and all associated documentation for the part.
We call this the Dwen Airmotive Guarantee.
Q15: How can I be sure that you will ship the parts that I need, and that you are reliable?
A15: Dwen Airmotive has established a reputation for providing high quality parts, at reasonable prices. To add weight to this claim, Dwen Airmotive has over 800 customers worldwide. Simply ask us for a list of companies we have done business with near you, and ask them. Also all parts are covered by a 'conditional money back guarantee' (see above).
Q16: Why is your slogan "Providing aviation solutions since 1968"?
A16: Dwen Airmotive is a multifaceted company and it carries out many activities across many industry sectors. These are all related to aviation in one way or another and we have been doing this since 1968.
In many cases, Dwen Airmotive brings aviation technology into other industry sectors. For example, Dwen Airmotive agencies include products which are used on aircraft or equipment which is suspended from helicopters. Many hardware items are used in motor sport, and we provide film crews with aircraft parts on aviation related films. All of these activities are somehow related to aviation.
Q17: What types of aircraft do you have parts for?
A17: We stock parts for the following aircraft types: Boeing: (B747-400, B747-300, B737) MacDonnell Douglas (DC10, DC8, DC6, DC3) Lockheed Martin (C130) Bristol (B170 Freighter) BAE-146.
Q18: What engine types do you cover?
A18: We don't specialize in any particular engine type; however we do hold stocks of expendable type items for: General Electric: CF6, CF34, LM2500, CFM56; Pratt & Whitney: JT9D, JT8D, PW2000, PW4000, PT6, V2500; Rolls Royce: RB211, T56, Dart, and A250; Allied Signal: APU, and radial piston engine (P&W R-1830, Bristol Hercules) too.
Q19: What types of parts do you stock?
A19: We mostly stock expendable (Class III) parts. We also have a few rotable components, but this is not our main focus.
Q20: Do you stock British hardware?
A20: Yes, we have a small selection of BA and BSF nuts and bolts and specialty items.
Q21: What do you mean by "limited traceability" on your quotations?
A21: This phrase means that the particular part quoted does not have complete traceability to an FAA approved source. However, Dwen Airmotive will have some documentation which will show the origin of the part. In most cases this will be a copy of the "disposal manifest" from an airline. The disposal manifest is a list of parts with a reference to the airline and to the specific part; by part number, description and quantity etc. However, in such cases we will not be able to provide any other relevant documentation; such as a packing slip or invoice, which would conclusively link the part to our supplier. We believe that this is far better than a Company Certificate of Conformance (Company C of C) only.
Q22: How can you help me convert my surplus or slow moving inventory into cash?
A22: Dwen Airmotive has several customisable programs to convert your surplus or slow moving inventory into cash. These programs include:
- outright purchase
- consignment agreement
- sale on behalf as an agent
- exclusive marketing or co-marketing
- non exclusive marketing or co-marketing
We are very flexible in our approach, each customer is treated according to their particular circumstances and needs. We tailor the solution to those needs; one size does not fit all.
